The taxpayers and people of Saskatchewan are better served by open and fair competition and living up to the New West Free Trade Agreement than they are to submit to narrow minded protectionist sediments of those with vested interests who simply don't want to compete,
Don’t agree with this protectionist approach. At all. Saskatchewan hasn’t forever been the economic furnace of Canada, and good Saskatchewan contractors (and other businesses by the way) have successfully competed in other provinces for many years, which is perfectly fine. It’s disingenuous, and anti-capitalistic to set up protectionist barriers like this, and moves like this tend to create retaliatory approaches in other provinces that may last long beyond the usefulness of this myopic initiative. Folks, we’re all Canadian, lets let Canadian contractors compete fairly in all provinces, on the basis of their skill and capability. Shackling competition with lead weights is weak, and will beget weakness. That’s just not how we’re built. It’s a matter of principle.
Pretty sure Potzus Paving, K-Line Maintenance and Tollifson Cable have gotten a LOT more work in Manitoba than any Manitoba companies ever have in Saskatchewan. I am in Portage la Prairie. We have had to watch a Saskatchewan drilling company wander around our parts for the last 6 months. Are you going to call them home?
